Women Have Influence: 5 SA Women to Watch in 2022

August 25, 2022
Adrienne Kruger

We lifted our eyes, looked around the office, checked socials and realized that you're lucky you're the reader and not the writer here. Who to include? Whose stories have we not covered? Who is up and coming? Who is a changemaker? Tbh, we were completely overly inspired (although that's never a bad thing).

At People Have Influence, we're surrounded by women who inspire us. Yes, we know "it's in our name," but hear us out for a quick sec…

Whether it be the influencers we work with, the women we see online, or the women who birthed us and raised us, we all know of a woman who has made her mark on our lives.

Influencing Others Through Action

So let's do a quick flashback to where it all began. In 1956, the world saw how 'strength' has the face of a South African woman. It has the impact of 20 000 raised fists and placards, marching to the Union Buildings, collectively protesting the Pass Laws and oppressive government, demanding change.

Since then, the strength of a woman hasn't changed. It has diversified into more places, challenging the status quo, calling for equality and growing opportunities for generations who don't know it yet. At P.H.I., we have not only seen the strength of women, we've been driven by it. It's one of the many reasons we started our specialized influencer marketing agency.

A Woman's Domino Effect (aka Influence)

As women, we often associate our success with the team's collective success. While this may sometimes be true, join us in giving credit where it's due and sharing the stories of powerful women who are currently making big moves. When women demonstrate their resilience, it not only strengthens them personally, it also positively impacts the people around them - so be prepared for some serious #inspo.

5 SA Women to Watch in 2022

1. Adè Van Heerden

Image

We had to start with our day one, our very own Adè and Miss SA in 2017. A SANDF medical doctor, host of eNCA's Health Matters and founder of My CoCo, a feminine hygiene subscription company that provides women with 100% biodegradable and organic period products. As of August 2022 a new website was well underway, so keep an eye out for more deets on when these products will be live. With every subscription box delivered to you, a girl in need also receives sanitary products on your behalf. Take a look at our latest dedication to Adè, where you can find out more about this boss babe.

2. Cleo Marcopoulos Aitken

"I love what happens when women come together!" - louder for the people in the back! Judging by this statement, you guessed it, Cleo is a mover-and-shaker who currently has a few businesses on the go. She's running two NGOs (The Cora Project and Run For Coffee SA), as well as her company, Style Rotate, which promotes renting outfits to make fashion sustainable. Both of her NGOs focus on women, with The Cora Project supporting menstruators from underprivileged communities in SA by providing them with the knowledge and resources to end period poverty. While Run For Coffee SA is a female collective of women from all walks of life who run together 2-3 times a week and who have created a sisterhood. Find out more about Cleo here.

3. Lauren Dallas

Image

Where do you even begin when it comes to Lauren Dallas? Impact-driven and hero-ing the collective strength of women. Lauren is the CEO of Future Females, which is currently "building the first community-based learning experience for women who want to invest in themselves and their future dream business." You can find out more about this platform here. In just 3.5 years, Lauren has grown Future Females to feature in 44 cities, with over 70 000 members and 2,000 graduates from its entrepreneurial programmes. Get used to hearing the name 'Lauren Dallas,' because her trajectory is only going higher and has us clicking the 'share' button whenever we see her updates. Find out more about why we love Lauren here.

4. Cally Silberbauer

Cally is taking her influence offline. She's peddling from Cape Town to Kilimanjaro where she plans to summit on her bike and set the female fastest known time cycling up the mountain. This influential woman is on a mission to take a stand against gender-based violence (GBV) and raise funds for the Saartjie Baartman Centre for Women and Children. She told various news outlets covering her story: "it would be foolish to think that one endurance event like my cycle to Mount Kilimanjaro could solve GBV, but I am hoping that it will make a difference. Women are told more often than not that they shouldn't do things for various reasons. The world is changing, and women are getting more opportunities, but I'm not about to sit around and wait for things to change. I want to be part of that force that pushes for change." Remember how we started with 'strength' has the face of a woman…prime example. If you want to follow Cally's journey (she's almost reached Kili), give her a follow here.

5. Kopano Shimange

How does a community of women committed to taking action and achieving their personal and professional brand and business dreams sound like to you? You had us at "community of women" because we have seen the magic when women come together - especially when Kopano Shimange is involved. "Club She Is" is the brainchild of Kopano, who has created a platform for women whose mission is to create a life they deserve. To take a path with the support of other women and learn tools that can help them grow both professionally and personally. If you want to go from employee to employer, Kopano's Club She Is community is where it's all at. Find out more about Kopano  here.
